Sky watch Friday - at the top of the trees

June 18th, 2009 Peter Korkala

Today’s photos is from one of my favourite places, a small forest lake in Grängesberg (Sweden) where you’re almost at the same level as the top of the trees. There is so much sky to look at!

This is where I work

The photo is from this truck:

But I don’t drive trucks at work, I work in the filling-area (mostly at the can filling line) at Kopparberg’s Brewery. Did you know that Kopparberg’s Pear cider is the world’s largest cider brand?

Photos of a beaver

June 12th, 2009 Peter Korkala

This Wednesday I saw two beavers swimming around in the lake in Sundet. It was a fabulous feeling to be so close. I had the EF 80-200 lens mounted at that moment, and I didn’t want to waste time switching to the 400 mm. But next time I will bring you some 400 mm beaver shots. :)

Some of the photos are cropped.

Bird photos

June 9th, 2009 Peter Korkala

Today’s trip in the woods ended up with photos of two birds, one European Robin (Erithacus rubecula) and one Black Grouse or Capercaillie - I cannot tell the difference…

My favourite lake

May 24th, 2009 Peter Korkala

This is my favourite lake, just about 10 minutes from here by car. Located in the middle of nowhere, in the woods:

It’s the same lake as in the last Sky Watch Friday-post.

Sky Watch Friday - A view from the clear-cut forest

May 22nd, 2009 Peter Korkala

The other day we were at our favourite lake in the woods, but this time we found a new place where we were high above the lake. A really nice spot we definitely will return to!

We went for a evening walk yesterday evening. It was a fantastic light in the sky, and at the same time the clouds made nice sihouettes.

Close-ups of swans

April 14th, 2009 Peter Korkala

This afternoon we drove by a lake in Grängesberg where there usually are swans. We were lucky! The ice was melted and a pair of swans were there.

They came so close I had to stand back a bit. My close-up limit of the 400 mm lense is somewhere around 3-4 meters, and the swans came too close! Very exiting! :)

In the last photo you can see the swan chewing on a bit of bread. That’s the reason they came so close - we gave them some bread to eat. :)

Common cranes (Grus grus)

April 13th, 2009 Peter Korkala

This is a fascinating bird. It’s really big - at least for being a bird! It’s more than one meter long and around 2-2,5 meters wingspan!

I really love my “new” Tokina 400 mm lense! :)

Photos of the Moon with a 400 mm

April 5th, 2009 Peter Korkala

Yesterday evening I made my first attempt to catch the moon with my 400 mm lense:

The photo is not cropped.

This is the same photo, but cropped (and I also sharpened it with unsharp mask in Photoshop):

This is the same photo once again, but cropped in another way. It turned out a little bit noisy, so I desaturated it and sharpened it with unsharp mask:

Now I’m waiting for the full moon! :)

Turning Torso - Sky watch Friday

March 19th, 2009 Peter Korkala

Turning Torso in Malmö, the tallest building in Sweden. Photo taken on January 25th.

It’s not the best Sky Watch Friday-photo, but I wanted to participate today, and I couldn’t find any other photo with more “sky” in it…

I took my 400 for a walk

March 18th, 2009 Peter Korkala

This Sunday I took my new 400 mm for a walk in Örebro, a fairly large city (around 120,000 people) 90 km to the south of my home. I’m still learning how to manage the new lense, but with a bit of luck one and another photo comes out sharp and nice (I’m not used to use manual focus)… :)

This photo is NOT sharp, but I like the composition. It would have been very nice if the girl’s legs and shoes were in focus.

Here’s almost the same photo, but with another focus. I like this one too.

A pair of walking shoes. :)
