Turning Torso – Sky watch Friday

March 19th, 2009 Peter Korkala

Turning Torso in Malmö, the tallest building in Sweden. Photo taken on January 25th.

It’s not the best Sky Watch Friday-photo, but I wanted to participate today, and I couldn’t find any other photo with more “sky” in it…

I took my 400 for a walk

March 18th, 2009 Peter Korkala

This Sunday I took my new 400 mm for a walk in Örebro, a fairly large city (around 120,000 people) 90 km to the south of my home. I’m still learning how to manage the new lense, but with a bit of luck one and another photo comes out sharp and nice (I’m not used to use manual focus)… :)

This photo is NOT sharp, but I like the composition. It would have been very nice if the girl’s legs and shoes were in focus.

Here’s almost the same photo, but with another focus. I like this one too.

A pair of walking shoes. :)

Airplanet framed in Örebro, this Sunday. A search on the number gives that this is a Reims F172N Skyhawk 100 II.

I’ve bought a 400 mm!

March 10th, 2009 Peter Korkala

Yesterday I recieved my new Tokina 400 mm! Yay! I’ve always wanted to have a good zoom lens! Although this one is without zoom (always 400 mm) I’m very glad to have it. To bad though that I haven’t tried it out yet – the weather is so bad outside (snowing heavily) and this lens is certainly not a very good one for indoor use… Keep your finger crossed for sunshine tomorrow! :)

Skåne

March 5th, 2009 Peter Korkala

The small harbour in Kåseberga, Skåne, at february 7th. Foggy and windy but no snow or ice.

The famous Ale’s Stones in Kåseberga.

The photos were shot with the 50 mm lense.

Today I bought a new (used) lense – a Tokina RMC 400 mm! I’m sure I’m going to love that one! I’m really looking forward to get it! :) :)

I’m still around…

February 9th, 2009 Peter Korkala

I just wanted to write and tell that I’m still around somewhere here. This is the last week in Copenhagen, at the Scandinavian School of Brewing, and I’ll be home again on friday. Yay! :-)

A January sunset in Sundet

January 9th, 2009 Peter Korkala

I’m a bit late with my Sky Watch Friday-post this week too, but I didn’t have the time to make the post yesterday. That was good though, because today I hade the chance to get this beautiful sunset captured on (digital) film.

Sundet is a tiny, tiny village between the tiny village Ställdalen and the large village Kopparberg. Sundet means The Strait in Swedish.

The first photo was taken to the east:

And the second photo is to the west:

Plans of today

January 6th, 2009 Peter Korkala

Salty roads

This is what a road in the winter should look like! I really hate the salt they’re spreading out on the roads as soon as they can. One of the really good things with the cold weather (below -6 C) is that the salt is useless, and we get this nice winter roads instead of the wet, ugly, salty ones.

A day off

Today it’s a bit warmer, around -8 C, so maybe it’s a good day for a trip somewhere? As this day is a holiday (January 6th, Epiphany), at least here in Sweden, I’m not at work today.

Work

Hmm… did I mention that I’m back at the brewery? Due to the recession I lost my job as a Diamond Core Driller (they’ve dismissed 49 out of 85 men), but luckily I could begin at the brewery (Kopparbergs Brewery) again, just two weeks later. I’ve been working as a supervisor at the filling lines at the brewery for six years before I started as a Core Driller.

Five weeks of education in Denmark

On Saturday I’m going to a five weeks education at Scandinavian School of Brewing (Bryggerhøjskolen) in Copenhagen, Denmark. It will be a tough challenge, but also a lot of fun. I’m going to live in Svedala, Skåne and take the train over the Öresund Bridge, every day. I hope there will be time for some photographing during the five weeks stay there!

Freeze!

January 4th, 2009 Peter Korkala

This morning the thermometer showed -21C… It’s getting colder and colder.

I’m very jealous of Ivar, I want 50 cm of snow too!

Monday morning, it’s still snowing

December 8th, 2008 Peter Korkala

It’s been snowing on and off this morning, but as I write this the temperature is climbing towards zero.

One better enjoy this while it lasts:

It’s snowing quite heavily in all the photos – I stood under an umbrella while taking them! It must have been quite a sight for the people passing by! :)

December 7th, 2008 Peter Korkala

It’s been snowing since Friday afternoon… Today I started my day shovelling snow. We’ve recieved at least 20 cm (8″). It looks like a cristmas card wherever you look! Amazing!

It’s snowing

December 6th, 2008 Peter Korkala

It’s been snowing since yesterday evening, and it’s sooo beautiful outside! But as it’s still snowing I don’t want to go out with the camera – I don’t want it covered with snow…

Here are two photos from my bedroom window:

Gray snow clouds – Sky Watch Friday

December 4th, 2008 Peter Korkala

This is what it looks like here today. No blue sky in sight for miles… Not a very good photo for SWF, but I love the snow covered trees!

Update: The photo is not in B/W, it’s in full color…
