The church in Kopparberg

The church in Kopparberg was begun in 1635, more than 370 years ago. In February 2006 the church was voted as the most beautiful church in Sweden. The voting was held by a magazine called “Året Runt”. The church’s name isn’t “Kopparbergs kyrka” (kyrka is the swedish word for church) but Ljusnarsbergs Kyrka. Ljusnarsberg is the name of the municipality.

  1. Awesome, I love the texture on the building.

  2. This summer we were on holyday in Hjulsjö. We’ve travelled 1700 km with an old camper from a little village somewhere in Fryslân (the Netherlands)to a little camping nearby Hjulsjö, owned by some old friends. I’m an architect and I love old buildings. We‘ve visit Kopparberg and I’ve made some photo’s of this beautiful church and its surrounding. It is amazing that wooden churches like these, easily will survive the climate and time. In Holland they wouldn’t survive the moisture climate at all, despite regularly maintenance and restoration.
