Photos from a country walk (updated)

July 19th, 2008 Peter Korkala Posted in Photo |

I took a country walk this afternoon, to get more practice with my new camera. These photos passed my “quality check”:

I love photos with unsharp background - “bokeh” (that’s a Japanese word, huh?)

Harebells. They are very common around here.

A butterfly of unknown species. This photo is cropped.

I’ve investigasted a bit more about the species of the butterfly, and it seems to be a Queen of Spain Fritillary (Issoria lathonia). In Swedish it’s called Storfläckig pärlemorfjäril.

Two beetles on a common daisy. This photo is a bit unsharp, so it really didn’t pass my quality check, but I’ll throw it in here anyway.

  1. Hey Peter!

Thanks for the comment on my webpage.

Really nice bokeh shots… congratulations on the new camera! A lot to learn, but you’ll love it.

I have the 20D, a bit dated, but still a great camera. :)

  2. Found this site by Entrecard on seventotentokyo. Great pictures! I wish I knew how to take nice pictures like this. Is it hard to learn?

I’m headed to Sweden tomorrow. Our first time to go, so I plan to bring back many pictures. The quality will be much lower though, I’m afraid.

  3. Thanks Laura! 20D is really a great camera, there’s no need to exchange the house for a new one just because there are new ones available.

Thomas, I’ve already blogrolled your site! :)
It’s not that hard to learn - but you must have the interest and practice very much.
So, you’re coming to Sweden! Nice!!
Where in Sweden are you going to stay? Stockholm? Hope you’ll get a lot of photos, and that you’ll have sunshine during your stay. Right now it’s raining like h**l, at least at my place…

  4. I think they would pass anyone’s quality check. I do not quite know which I prefer, but I am especially impressed by the last one - I know the patience needed for that!

  5. Thanks Rune!

  6. Absolutely beautiful photos. That is an interesting butterfly, too. I really wonder what species it is.

  7. Thank you, PoetBlogger!
I had to look the butterfly up, and I’ve updated the post with the species (”Queen of Spain Fritillary”).

  8. Of course it had to be a European butterfuly. No wonder why I haven’t seen one before.
